A cyclist was killed and two were others injured after a teenage driver blew through a red light in Midwood Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

An 18-year-old man was driving southbound on Coney Island Avenue when he ran a red light at Avenue L and T-boned another car heading east at 12:27 p.m, according to preliminary investigations by the police department’s Collision Investigation Squad.

The second vehicle then jumped the curb, where it struck the cyclist and a pedestrian, pinning both against a wall, cops said.

Paramedics rushed the 52-year-old cyclist — who was stationary at the time of the incident — to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a spokesman for the police department.

The pedestrian, 52, and the 38-year-old male operator of the second vehicle were brought to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition, the authorities said.

Cops took the 18-year-old driver into custody, and police expect to file charges soon, the NYPD spokesman said.

Sunday’s fatality marks the 14th biker to perish on Kings County streets this year and the 19th to die citywide. There were only 10 cyclist fatalities throughout all five boroughs in 2018.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as more details become available.

A biker is a person who drives a motorcycle A cyclist is a person who rides a bicycle.

Neighobor from Atlantic Yards says: I've written Marcus Carrion before who runs the city supposedly constituent services dept about bike, pedestrian safety. As usual from Deblasio novice staff who have no understanding of what constituent services is you don't get any response.

Either it's murder charges or the driver is the son of a cop and this will disappear like it never happened.

First off, that video in the link does not show "it happen." Second, I will never cycle in this city. Just much too dangerous with all of these fools behind the wheels. Third, RIP to the cyclist. This is such a tragedy.

The driver is obviously not obligated to obey secular traffic laws so the NYPD let him walk.

accidents will happen says:
which is why we need protection. Cars have bumpers, impact resistance doors and glass, safety belts, crash test requirements, etc, now with crash warning indication and some with automatic breaking. Bike have nothing. Why are cars required to have all this and not bikes? With cars the buyer pays for all this engineering. With bikes the public will pay for protected lanes and the like. And cyclist will continue to die at intersections anyway which is where the majority of them happen. Does this bike thing make any sense or are we throwing away public money at something that has proven to be a failure at the cost of so many innocent lives.

Ro from Park Slope says:
I am filled with sorrow as yet again another person is harmed and worse due to dangerous handling of a vehicle--motorized or not. I had to read the first line twice since it is customarily a cyclist who blows "through a red light" causing danger to both pedestrians and auto drivers.

tyler from pps says:
"Accidents will Happen" -- We, as a city, haven't really done much at all to provide a real cycling infrastructure. So, no, nothing has been proven even though it's clear that's the conclusion you want. Cities in Europe were TRANSFORMED from motor vehicle cities that were unsafe for bikes to cities with cycling infrastructure than is part of their vibrant economies. I'm sure New York City, the greatest city in the world, can at least be as good as some commie good for nothing Europeans? Right?

Tyler from pps says:
By the way... a "stationary bicyclist" is basically a pedestrian. I guess we need to install bumpers, safety belts, and impact resistant doors on pedestrians. Does this pedestrian thing make any sense or are we throwing away public money at something that has proven to be a failure... after all, motorists are going to drive into pedestrians in crosswalks, on sidewalks and inside stores. Everyone really should just be in a car.

Some above (same person twice) make irrelevant comparisons between bikes and pedestrians when bikes travel in the street with cars and pedestrian use sidewalks. Worse yet they refer other places as being "commie" or somehow profile NYC as "being the greatest city in the world" - this is not the voice of logics nor stability.
