A miscreant stole a “master key” to mailboxes from a postal carrier on Monday.

The off-duty postal worker was in the lobby of his apartment building on Ridge Boulevard near 93rd Street at 1:50 pm when the suspect walked toward him with his hand in his jacket pocket and claimed he had a gun, according to a police spokesman. The thief demanded the courier spell out his mail route — which police say he did — and then the thief took the master key and fled on foot, according to officials.

The key opens all mailboxes on the carrier’s route, but it is not clear where his route covers, a police spokesman said.

Cops and federal agents swarmed the area shortly after the crime and scrambled to canvas for relevant security camera footage.

The postal worker was not injured, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

I'm sure the route was "unclear" to the police.

Also, beware of the new scam the NYPD is running with the alternate side parking rules.

They walk in fours and take a picture of your car if you are standing and waiting for a spot or the regulations to end. Because you never received a copy of the ticket (which was not legally issued, because you were not parked) you will get a failure to pay notice in the mail. That is the first time you will know they issued you a ticket through corruption.
Tax collectors or thieves come to mind.

Also, what happened to the Greenpoint crime blotter? When and how did we lose our right to know?

ron from 07047... Off duty because he probably went home to eat lunch. They do not get paid for lunches. They have to sign for the ARROW key and be cleared by a clerk.
