It’s high times on Brooklyn Paper Radio! Or is it?
On today’s show, Kelly Barbieri, the editor in chief of The Fresh Toast, a website that teaches everyone — including our square hosts — about the wonders of marijuana, will be in-studio to talk to the Lennon and McCartney of Community Journalism about the wonders of marijuana.
And the boys can’t wait for the show to start.
“You know, Vince, I have often wondered about the wonders of marijuana,” host and Daily News columnist Gersh Kuntzman said while “preparing” for the show Tuesday morning. “And I think the best way to wonder about the wonders of marijuana is to, you know, test out some marijuana to enhance the wonder.”
“That sounds wonderful,” admitted DiMiceli. “I think it would be beneficial to you if you did recreational drugs. Might calm you down.”
Kuntzman, of course, has been in a downward spiral since leaving the job he loved most — editing the Brooklyn Paper — in a failed attempt to win the hearts and minds of academia .
Since failing at that, he’s written a semi-biographical off-off-off-Broadway play titled “Murder at the Food Co-op,” and written a straight-to-Kindle, semi-biographical satire for the Daily News that centered on Vice-President Mike Pence’s plan to use the 25th Amendment to knock an insane Donald Trump out of office.
Those additional failures have left him in the dumps of late, and in need of a pick-me-up.
Hence, Barbieri was booked.
“I’m not a doctor and I don’t play one on television, but I think this is the guest Gersh needs,” DiMiceli said.
Of course, it’s not the first time the boys have dabbled in the world of (for now) illicit drugs.
On a recent cold November day, our hosts welcomed pot evangelist Joe Dolce to the show, discussing the proper dose for someone as high strung as Kuntzman.
In the end, though, the boys didn’t partake in any shenanigans, but that was then, and this is now.
“I’m not going to lie to you, folks,” Kuntzman said. “This time I intend to go all the way.”
