Kensington signs call non-Muslims ‘filthy creatures that pollute their bodies with alcohol and pork’

Someone seems to be trying to drive a wedge between Kensington’s Muslims and their neighbors by amending signs posted along Church Avenue that read “We love our Muslim neighbors” with ones that say “We love our infidel neighbors” and describes such residents as “filthy creatures that pollute their bodies with alcohol and pork.”

Local leaders think the new placards were probably some bigot’s attempt to make the area’s large Bangladeshi community look bad, but say if they were put there by a Muslim, they will find out and turn them in to police.

“This is not what we want. I can’t tell you 100 percent it’s someone who isn’t Muslim, but it’s possibly someone from the outside who’s trying to make us look bad,” said Community Board 12 member and long-time Kensington resident Mamnunul Haq. “If the person is Muslim, any legal action that’s possible the person will face.”

The new signs were gone by Wednesday afternoon, but Haq plans to report then to the 66th Precinct and hopes officers there will be able to track down surveillance footage that show the signs as they’re being posted he said.

Other residents are positive it will reveal the culprit is no follower of Muhammad.

“I read it and laughed,” said Kensingtonian John Caminiti, who spotted one of the signs Tuesday night, and says he heard about several others. “Obviously someone put it up who’s not a Muslim.”

The “We love our Muslim neighbors” signs — written in English, Arabic, and Bengali — appeared along the thoroughfare following Donald Trump’s election victory, which has many residents worried they’ll be deported or persecuted because of their faith under the new administration.

Caminiti says he has seen lots of support from non-Muslim residents towards their Islam-practising neighbors in the period since the election — especially online.

“Social-media wise, I’ve only seen really positive stuff,” he said.

But this is also not the only recent instance of hatred in the neighborhood — a vandal scrawled “F--- Allah” in permanent marker in the Fort Hamilton Parkway subway station earlier this month.

OMG says:
bkmanhatman - so if a Muslim says something offensive your first thought is to blame the Jews (and for no particular reason). Ultimate nonsense.
It's now apparently so unacceptable to dislike anything uttered by a Muslim, that even if they make an outrageous statement it's somehow anyone else'a fault. It's an insult to the majority of muslims who live according to the same standards of decency as anyone else to jump through hoops to excuse this kind of behavior. Also typically antisemetic to jump to accuse Jews for anything that you find less than pleasing.

I love pork and porky things.

It's the filthyness of all religons that corrupts personal choice and individualism that I hate.

Find a religion that supports all people and their individulism and you'll have something worth believing in. It's the same as the occasional feeling we encounter called love.

Benny from Park Slope says:
The idea that there is one true god, one true faith, one righteous/chosen people, yadda yadda, is the single most pernicious, divisive and fraudulent notion in human history -- and that is saying something, brother. All good, soulful people of faith accept that other faiths have validity. Zealots, meanwhile, are usually gutless lowlifes who despise and fear what they don't understand. Personally, I don't give a crap who posted those asinine signs. I'm an agnostic pantheist. Give me a forest or a river or a meadow of wildflowers over some vengeful bearded deity any day. Peace, y'all. And Merry Christmas.

Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Unfortunately, some need to understand that tolerance works both ways. If one group wants to get respected, they need to show it back at others in the same way they want it. To quote Confucius, "Respect is something one must earn, not demand." Although the Muslims don't like to eat pork, they can't stop anyone else from eating it whether they approve of it or not, otherwise they can always go back to the Mid East to the many Muslim nations they dominate that has all the Sharia Laws. As an Israeli-born Jew, I do feel insulted especially when my group is constantly scapegoated for other problems and it feels that most have never learned from history after all the persecutions throughout time the Jews had to go through. Despite my religion, I do actually eat pork even though it's not even kosher, so my religion only exists to me in name only, while I hardly even practice my own beliefs, though I still celebrate my religion's holidays.

Dec. 24, 2016, 5:35 am

@ Wanda: Muslims are angry because their religion and culture are serious handicaps in a modern world. As they fall further behind they follow the example of Mohammed and his early followers and use violence and repression to gain control over other societies and people.

Dec. 25, 2016, 2:51 pm
Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Just calling others infidels alone gets them off on the wrong foot. Other than that, they have to understand that others are allowed to eat and drink things that they don't like just as much as they want their culture and beliefs to be respected. For the record, there are a lot of food and drinks that I don't like, but I don't stop others from liking them just because I don't like them myself just as much as I wouldn't want someone doing that to me. The same goes with other practices. In reality, I couldn't care less about what others want to believe, but just don't force it on those who don't. Please remember to treat others the way you want to be treated back.

Scott Allen from Manhattan says:
Qasooma from Astoria is the PERFECT example of Islam, so wonderfully disgusting with her seemingly love for America. But underneath is a disgust for blacks, dogs and probably Jews. But of course, we have to accept her and people like her. Otherwise we are racists. But if we were in her country and expressed a hatred for Muslims, we'd be burnt alive, shot dead in the streets or perhaps even worse. This is Islam portrayed exactly how it is, a disgusting ideology that hates EVERYONE who is not a Muslim. It's too bad all you liberals from Brooklyn are too dumb to see it. When you're all worshipping Allah under the threat of violence, then maybe it'll make sense. Even her use of the word "kuffur" makes no sense to you idiots. It's an expression that non muslims are BELOW muslims.
Dec. 26, 2016, 4:34 pm
Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Patricia, when Muslims were known for calling other infidels, they meant it in a bad way. Keep in mind that they go on record for saying that the infidels must pay for their crimes. My point is that if they really want to get others to respect their culture, they need to do the same back. Nobody is saying that they have to like those cultures, just be indifferent to them as they would others to be at theirs'. BTW, we Jews never said such things about other groups and if anything, it's the Jews who have been the victims of persecution since the early days of civilization just for different beliefs. I have always found it an irony that Muslims claims that they don't like to feel persecuted for their beliefs yet they have no problems dishing it. When they learn to start accepting others despite their differences especially when living in an open society such as the US, they will start to earn the respect from all others, otherwise they can always go back to one of the 60 countries their group calls home and has their beliefs only. On a side note, I am a registered Democrat, and have voted for that party ever since I started voting for the first time since 2001 in which I did vote for presidential candidates such as John Kerry, Barrack Obama, and even Hillary Clinton even though I don't believe that much in political correctness.
