An Arab-American will run for Bay Ridge’s soon-to-be-open Council seat, Muslim activist Linda Sarsour revealed to hosts Gersh Kuntman and Vince DiMiceli during the latest edition of Brooklyn Paper Radio.

Sarsour, who is rumored to be running for the seat, said she is yet to decide if she will go for it herself, but claimed that one member of the growing population in the neighborhood would step up to the plate.

“Our community is having our own personal conversation about it,” she said of the seat that will be vacated by Vincent Gentile. “Someone who is Arab-American is definitely running in 2017. That is a fact.”

No Arab America has ever sat on the Council.

Sarsour came on the show to discuss the reasonable discourse happening live on over a story The Paper broke about a Bay Ridge Muslim woman’s line of “modest” clothing that some commentators claimed was the sign of he oppression of Muslim women.

But Sarsour said nowhere is it written that female practitioners of Islam must cover up, let alone wear a face-covering hijab.

“No one tells me to cover my hair, no father, no mother, no nothing,” she said. “It negates the purpose of wearing it if you are forced to wear it.”

Gersh and Vince also talked about the recent triple-play the Cyclones completed at MCU Park — and even replayed their live call of the game for the first time ever.

Finally, the boys brought on hardscrabble reporter Lauren Gill to discuss her report on the perceived uptick in crime in and around Brooklyn Bridge Park, where some Brooklyn Heights residents demanded basketball courts inside the park be replace with tennis courts.

And finally again, it wouldn’t be Brooklyn Paper Radio without a mention of “Murder at the Food Co-op!

All in all, it was a great show, completely worth your time!

Brooklyn Paper radio is recorded and podcast live every Thursday at 4:45 pm — for your convenience — from out studio in America’s Downtown and can be found, as always, right here on, on iTunes at, on Mixlr, and of course, on Stitcher.

Reasonable discourse

Henry from Park Slope says:
Why is the Brooklyn Paper giving additional publicity to an apologist for Islamic supremacy?

Cindy from Queens says:
A woman who supports terrorism, religious extremism, and the oppression of other women? Disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
It's not progressive just because she wears a headscarf - she is a champion of conservative to the point of facist values. And a supporter of people who take innocent lives (but only as long as those people are muslim, the only people she cares about in the world, the rest of us don't matter to her).

Martin from Park Slope says:
How fascinating - I'm so curious to hear what this bigot has to say! Will you be invitng David Duke next week?

John Wasserman from Prospect Heights says:
I hate to say this, but it's really too bad that everyone can't get along:
We should obviously have both tennis and basketball fields. This will make everyone happy and these poors will stop stealing. Of course, this is only the opinion of one man. This man's name is John Wasserman and I will back up what I've just said. Just try me. Pardon the interruption.

Just as God makes people that cut and paste from the postings of others, such as yourself, Anthony (if that is, in fact, your real name).

Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Unfortunately, she will win either because many will vote for her anyway or not bother to vote for her at all. That is how a number of politicians end up getting elected especially the ones we don't like. For the record, I wouldn't mind an Arab or Arab-American running for such a seat, just not one that happens to be a terrorist sympathizer such as her.

8:17 great interview, linda! keep doing what you do. #unapologeticallymuslim

MJ from Bay Ridge says:
This makes Chris McCreight like a fool. And a coup against Vincent Gentile. I guess the $500,000 that Linda Sarsour's association received from the city was not enough to keep her busy with own community affair.
July 15, 2016, 6:12 pm
John from Bay Ridge says:
Linda Sarsour is a self-serving demagogue. Unless there is massive voter fraud, she will be elected to nothing.
July 15, 2016, 6:21 pm
MJ from Bay Ridge says:
So I guess a Republican from Marty Golden's office can easily steal the district 43 council seat because of split vote in the coup started by Linda Sarsour.
July 15, 2016, 6:33 pm
MJ from Bay Ridge says:
The 43 district city council covers not just Bay Ridge, but also Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, and Bath Beach. Large Asian-American population as swing vote (Arab-American population is small in comparison).
July 15, 2016, 6:55 pm
Asian from Dyker Heights says:
Linda Sarsour is an activist of "Black Lives Matter" movement. Asian-Americans still remember fallen NYPD officer Wenjian Liu, who was killed as a result of wide-spread anti-police protests in the country. Asian-Americans will not vote for Linda Sarsour who is anti-policing.

samir kabir from downtown says:
Au contraire, Cindy from Queens, the USA takes tons of innocent lives on a regular basis, see: USA invasion and occupation of Iraq. The Quran requires women to be modest. They should cover their hair, their chests, and their arms, legs and neck. Face, hands and feet may be seen. A Muslim woman may choose not to do this, if she wants. This article is written not because Sasour is Arab American, but because she is Muslim.
July 16, 2016, 6:17 am
Henry from Park Slope says:
Samir, while I opposed the invasion of Iraq (not the US' fight and the aftermath of the invasion was badly mishandled) the majority Shia population of Iraq, in addition to the Kurds, were actually quite pleased that the government of Saddam Hussein was eliminated. The Shia in particular were very unhappy with the oppression of their people by the Sunni. You know the Sunni, the same people who bring us the Islamic State, Boko Haram, al Qaeda, the Taliban, the Nuzra Front and several other Sunni Muslim terrorist organizations, including, last but not least, Hammas, the terrorist organization so near and dear to the heart of Linda Sarsour and her family.

Brooklyn, not to mention the US, does not the dysfunction of the Middle East imposed on our society. And that's what Lind Sarsour is intent on doing.

Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Let's not forget that the district she is running in does have a good Jewish population, and her anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas stances will make it hard for her to get their votes.
July 16, 2016, 4:22 pm
Samantha from Bay Ridge says:
What an awful and alarming woman. I'll vote for literally anyone running against her. Doesn't matter who, she's truly rock bottom. Makes Trump seem classy and grounded by comparisson.

Sal from Sheepshead Bay says:
Why is this bigot getting any time with the press? Just another Muslim blaming the world for the religions' problems. Her last name in arabic is the definition of what she and her people are, just a bunch of useless cockroaches.

joann says:
@sal- "useless cockroaches"?

previously, you were nothing but a drop of sperm... look at you now acting all arrogant. then, to dust you will turn in your grave. how then are you better than animals?

shame on you!

Holly says:
So the message is that she believes a person's ethnicity is the only reason to vote for them? Not that they're qualified or intelligent - just that they're Arabs. For her Arabness is the be all and end all quality of a person. She's a divisive self promoter. I look forward to the day she's exposed as having no conscience, being racist, and generally sucking money away from the city.

MJ from Bay Ridge says:
The 2015 "Summer of Support" campaign at NYPD 68 Precinct highlighted that the community always prefer strong and active policing - contrary to Linda Sarsour's philosophy

If any new immigrant group activist want to run for city council in New York, please first leave behind any geopolitical issues and baggage from the homeland. New York City is a multi-culture metropolitan, where for many generations for people to start a new life for their future generations.

Uncle Joe dunney from Joe majors dellarocca says:
Uncle Joe here chiming in on the issue. I was sitting on my bench on the 69th St pier the other day when a young girl of Arab stock walked by and uttered the words, free Palestine, while I was trying to relax I was subject to this Arab propaganda, in all my years i have never seen these Arabs so.bold, , so brazen, to bother strangers with that. I blame Sarsour for this. She teaches them to agitate and it made me uncomfortable in my lifelong environs. That is all.

Ken from Greenpoint says:
so far is this the best news BP can offer ?
July 18, 2016, 2:59 pm
Tal Barzilai from Pleasantville, NY says:
Just to get clear up the claim on Palestine, there is something here that some of you need to know about the actual name, and this is coming from an Israeli-born Jew such as myself. The name Palestine isn't a Muslim name, it was the name Philistine in Latin, which was given by the Romans, whose empire died out long before Islam even existed. The Philistines themselves weren't even Muslims either, they were a polytheistic, nomadic tribe that went extinct since ancient times due to their nature. It was the Jews who were domesticated to such a land with the evidence to back that. The only remote connection Palestine has to the Muslims is that first Muslim group to conquer that land just kept that name, but that's about it. BTW, the Koran, doesn't even mention Jerusalem has a holy city to them while citing Mecca numerous times over, plus it's been found that the Jews are facing Jerusalem when they pray while it's the Muslims who are facing Mecca making the Dome of the Rock nothing more than a victory mosque. One other thing, there has been no historical evidence that Mohamed even reached Jerusalem, which means there is a possibility he never reached it to begin with. More importantly, Arab and Muslim extremists didn't start officially considering themselves Palestinians until 1964. In other words, what were they calling themselves before that? Despite keeping the name, Palestine was always under foreign rule between the Romans all the way to British, so they never had their nation prior to the Israeli War of Independence. On a side note, the term Jew means coming from Judea, which were the entire religion can trace their roots from and that happens to be present day Israel, while the term Arab means from Arabia, which is present day Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, which shows who is really from there. Historically, there has always been a huge Jewish population living there even when a Muslim empire was ruling it showing how much the Jews stayed there aren't all from Europe or the US. Just to let you know, there are Arabs and Muslims that do have seats in the Israeli Knesset not to mention they have currently the third largest party sitting while no Jew is allowed to have any seats in the Palestinian Authority, which shows who is really practicing apartheid here. Overall, Sarsour in just another one of those who has nothing but an anti-Israel bias and will never admit to the truth no matter how many times it has been proven.
July 18, 2016, 5:01 pm
MJ from Bay Ridge says:
Most folks at the 43rd District of Bay Ridge, Dyker, West Bensonhurst, and Bath Beach has little to no interest at the Arab-Israeli geopolitics. The local residents mostly want someone who can take care of the community with good schools, low crime, good government services in parks, sanitation, and library.
July 19, 2016, 12:24 pm
TOM from Sunset Park says:
Last I heard for Linda Sarsour she was seen opening Bernie Sanders' Brooklyn HQ down in Gowanus. This was not in the district by more than a mile.

She was a member of the Bay Ridge Democrats but she started her own club--the Arab-American Democratic Club--a city-wide organization, I believe.

She writes articles for THE GUARDIAN in Manchester. England, not New Hampshire.

All politics is local Tip said. She hasn't learned this as yet. Get on the ballot and you'll soon find out.

Caryn Burke from bay ridge says:
Linda Sarsour is a terrorist supporting, Sharia law promoter. She should never be elected to anything in this country. She is hateful and lives up to the meaning of her last name: cockroach. Disgusting trash.
