Someone shot and killed a Ditmas Park man on Tuesday night outside a bodega blocks away from his home, police said.

Raphael Kurton, 27, was arguing with his assailant outside a corner store on Newkirk Avenue at E. 17th street shortly before 9:30 pm, when the gunman pulled a firearm and shot Kurton at least once in the torso, according to a police spokeswoman.

Kurton staggered about half a block toward his Ocean Avenue home before collapsing on Newkirk Avenue between E. 17th and E. 18th streets, where cops responding to a 911 call found him lying unconscious, according to a report.

Responders transported Kurton to Kings County Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead, cops said.

There have been no arrests and police are investigating the shooting, a report said.

Very sad. May his soul r.i.p.
I was familiar with him through a close family member.. Enough to know that he was a hot head. Still no one deserves death by the hands of another human being. Rest easy Raphael.

Neighbor from Ditmas Park says:
Wow!!! Just reading these posts. When will real MEN stand up and put an end to this senseless violence. Do you all actually think that this is the way to conduct yourselves and get ahead in life??? You will either end up dead or in jail or destitute and poor. It is time for us black men to stop this and conduct ourselves like men. Not like gangsters but like MEN. Now this young man is dead and his family is devastated mourning his loss. Think about the ripple effect all of this has in devastating families. This is tragic and our lives are tragic and meaningless unless we stand up and say ENOUGH!!!

Reading these posts and thinking it's easy to hide behind behind a computer and write these bull____ posts cause you didn't really know him. As far as being a bully that was never the case. Wasn't one to watch OTHERS being bullied and always took up for the underdog. He would come to your rescue in a second without hesitation or questions asked. He was one of the most loyal people you could ever know and someone who stood for something. Was always true to who he was whether you liked it or not and that's qualities you don't find EVERYDAY!!!! Rest in peace you are loved and will be missed... Will never be another like you!!!!!!!

Mason freeman from Midwood says:
This is insane, this guy talking bout he saw what happen ..and he did not stop it from happening? What you do? Im guessing he ran and left his friend for dead.. From what ive been reading and watching all his so called "friends" watch it unfold and did nothing but run like that warner brother cartoon character speedy Gonzalez.. And than u have this other idiot talking bout retaliation, like seriously if your going to retaliate, which i dont approve of, should be done on his friends who watch him die. Everyone should stop talking about stuff they aint gonna do ,,they had they opportunity to show they loyalty and faild , let it be and continue on which yall lives take care of your neighborhood and the people in it. Move on and be yourself.
