Gerritsen Beach

Dan, Dan he’s our man

Borough President Adams honored Gerritsen Beach resident Dan Foster — a colorectal cancer survivor and Ambassador of Brooklyn for the Colon Cancer Alliance — who has raised more than $185,000 for various cancer organizations, during a ceremony at Borough Hall last month.

Dan, who has our Standing O record for the most shout-outs, is a 19-year cancer survivor and the founder of the annual Dan’s 5K Fun Run in Gerritsen Beach, and has raised thousands of dollars for colorectal cancer research along with many other causes.

Our man Dan recommends everyone get tested.

“There are many reasons to get a colonoscopy,” he said, “Don’t be scared and don’t put it off.”

So what are you waiting for? You know who you are, so get cracking.

Save the date: This year’s 5K run is set for Sept. 19. All donations will benefit Cancer Care for Kids. E-mail Dan at or visit or call (877) 422–2030.
