A Tea Party Republican is making the move from Bay Ridge to Coney Island in hopes of finding a smoother ride into the City Council.

Andy Sullivan, who planned on taking on incumbent Councilman Vincent Gentile next November, says he now he has his sight set on the People’s Playground council seat being vacated by term-limited Councilman Domenic Recchia. The construction worker — known for his fight against the Sheepshead Bay mosque and proposed Muslim community center at Ground Zero in Manhattan, as well as for his appearances on Fox News’s “Hannity” — said the increasingly competitive and bitter campaign between Democratic contenders inspired him to make the switch.

“This is going to be a bloodletting of a Democratic primary, and I think there’s an opportunity for a Republican to get in there and possibly win,” said Sullivan.

There are four Democrats currently running for the seat, including John Lisyanskiy, a staffer for Council Speaker Christine Quinn; Mark Treyger, an aide to Assemblyman Bill Colton (D–Bensonhurst); Boardwalk activist Todd Dobrin; and Pastor Connis Mobley of the United Community Baptist Church on Mermaid Avenue.

Sullivan said he believes he can rally a coalition of older “Reagan Democrats” who tend to vote Republican, as well as conservative-leaning Asians and Latinos behind him in the working-class district, which spans the Coney, Seagate, Gravesend, and parts of Bath Beach and Bensonhurst.

“It’s a blue-collar district, and I’m a blue-collar guy,” Sullivan said.

The move also allows Sullivan to run on the Republican ticket without facing an opponent in a primary — something that would have happened had he stayed in the race in Bay Ridge, where he would have squared off against John Quaglione, an aide to Republican state Sen. Marty Golden.

Sullivan said he would now support his former rival’s bid to grab Gentile’s seat, although he did not have discussion with Quaglione or Golden before deciding to change his political plan..

Still, the change follows the advice given by Reagan’s adopted son, Michael Reagan, when he visited with county Republicans earlier this month, urging them to band together, refrain from petty infighting, and avoid the fate of the reds whom his father famously tabbed the “Evil Empire.”

“We need to stop eating our young, stop all this infighting and, if we can’t do that, we’ll be the ones left in the ash heap of history, not the communists,” Reagan said.

Sullivan, who doesn’t live in the Coney Island district, says he would move within the district before Election Day.

R U kidding? He can't win so he drops out. What makes him think Coney Island wants him?? Come on Republicans, U can do better than this! HE can't even vote for himself. "Plans to move there before election day" What an insult to everyone who lives in Coney Island and suffered through Sandy. Now they have to suffer "Hurricane Andy!"
Republicans U would be smarter to leave the ballot spot blank.

Cahan from Sheepshead says:
Come on guys! He couldn't win in Bay Ridge so he is running in Coney. He gets like $5 for every buck he raises. City matches the $$$ he raises. As long as he runs for something he can keep taking people's $.. Than NYC GIVES our tax $$$ to them as "matching funds." Then they raise our taxes. It is all about the $$$$ guys. Always is

Cahan from Sheepshead says:
It is all about the $$. The city gives him matching funds. For every buck he swindles from hard working people as a contribution he gets like $5 from our taxes as matching funds. Even when he loses he still gets our $$. Why do U think these creeps run for office, All about the bucks. Then they raise our taxes. They win WE the People always lose.

You guys definitely got this guy's ticket. The drug addiction, the illegal unemployment collection, his mother on food stamps, (that he lives with), the using of people, the lies about 9/11. All catching up with this creep. How pathetic. Glass houses. Everyone should ask for their money back. He hasn't quite made it to matching funds but he's close. Spread the word and protect good taxpayers from this swindler.

Annie from Bay Ridge says:
I guess Bay Ridge should be glad he is gone. But I donated a shifts tips to him. I don't even earn blue collar $ I wear an apron and pour coffee all day. Andy should return all of Bay Ridge money and go raise in his new neighborhood. Can anyone believe a word he says? U should have heard tell my boss how he was going to help our place stay open. That he was fighting for us for Bay Ridge.

David from Dyker Beach says:
I've heard stories that he lies about being @ WTC on 9/11, lies about being a first responder, and even lies about losing his girlfriend in one of the towers. Meanwhile he has two kids by his ex wife, and there ages put 9/11 right in between them? So which is it? You're lying to us now or you lied to your wife then? Hmmmm....

Johnny B from Brooklyn says:
Nothing to say this time Sullivan? None of your girlfriends can think of a defense for this scam? You get called out as the coward and admit you are running away from a fight u cant win. Or as article says "Switcheroo" "Avoiding a primary" Some fighter! Would love to get you in the ring you probably cry like a girl and crumble there too. A real man would give people back their money. But I bet U won't!

Annie from Bay RIdge says:
Oh David that's an old story. Since he was a kid trying to keep track of this creep's liasons would be a full time job.

Word is women are knows as " just one of his girlfriends." They know they share him.

Seems he goes for the type no man would look at or would want to take away from him. Guess he can't handle competition there either.

I've heard they pay his bills, buy him expensive gifts, and the women pay when they go out. Isn't there a word for that?

Paul G. from Bay Ridge says:
And all that hokum about being blackballed from the construction industry due to his political and "anti Mosque activities? Pure bull. Drug addiction, alcoholism and a wicked temper did him in. Now, as a licensed general contractor doing business in Brooklyn, I've never been in the position to be blackballed. I run my own shop. If he's such a skilled tradesman and construction supervisor, why can't he start his own like I and thousands of others have? This guy has every excuse not to work. Do we really need someone who avoids working at any cost?

Cornelius McGraw from Dyker Heights says:
The walls come crumbling down, don't they, Andy?
May 23, 2013, 9:07 am
Old Timet from Bay Ridge says:
You said it Paul. When I came back from Vietnam-- talk about blackballed. Treated like we were criminals. I picked up my tools and walked door to door asking did they need anything done. I washed windows in stores I shopped in. I painted fences for a nights dinner $. I walked and walked until I found someone to hire me. Somedays I delivered pizza another day cleaned a yard. That is what a man does when he wants to support a family Sullivan u need to lose some pride and man up here. You lost for a reason in Bay Ridge. Accept it. You are not fit for public office. . Eventually I got a job because I kept at it. Opened my own shop. Now retired and proud to say I took care of my family and served my country. The other Brooklyn daily site has someone calling Sullivan a hero!!! For shame my brothers who died serving this country are heros. Unemployed addict is no hero to this old timer.

Johhny B says:
Just saw on another site. Sullivan now makes sense. They posted he is not clean but still addict. They say the clean for 5 years is just another lie. One of his girlfriends claims to have been buying for him on street. so its the drugs that makes him think he can do this. Hey drug addicts scam and con to stay alive.

Kim D. from Brooklyn says:
When he was in the union his politics were far different. Well when he actually had a job and supported his family. Now he is a tea bagger with 2 kids and no job, you tell me do we want him in public office. He is a lier and a cheat and he should not be allowed to run for office.

Bassically, he sucks.
