You can’t always go to Disney, but sometimes Disney comes to you.
Brooklyn tots flocked to the Aviator Sports and Recreation Center at Floyd Bennett Field for the entertainment complex’s free Spring Facility Fun Day on Saturday, and while the weather wasn’t quite like sunny Florida, the folks from Radio Disney made it out anyway to provide some fun and games for Kings County’s kids.
“They had a ball,” said Bertha Dear, who came down with the grandkids from Flatbush. “I would definitely come back.”
Aviator’s recreation experts were on hand Saturday with all manner of sports amenities, including volleyball nets, basketball hoops, and lacrosse sticks to keep the kids warmed up on the nippy Spring afternoon.
“It was definitely on the cool side,” said Dear, referring to the weather. “But the kids were too busy playing volleyball to notice.”
Meanwhile, Radio Disney staff kept busy putting new spins on classic games, including musical chairs with a hula hoop twist.
“Radio Disney had their own set of games, including one with hula hoops, where they tried to go through the hoop before the music stopped,” Dear explained.
Some lucky tots even got to go home with raffle prizes, including eight-year-old Isabel Babayeva, who won a $25 gift certificate she plans to spend on her favorite ride — the Sky Jump bungee ride.
“We’re going to use it on the Sky Jump,” said Isabel’s mother, Lali. “She’s a big fan.”Reach reporter Colin Mixson at cmixson@cn
