Brooklyn is bound to go hog-wild over the Talde team’s latest PS edition: Pork Slope. The Patch reports that the rowdy roadhouse will be ready to open in the old Aunt Suzie’s place by the end of July, and will feature small-batch whiskies, smoked meats, and whimsical dishes like the Italian Beef Bao, a Philly steak sammy dipped in jus, covered in cheese and topped with giardiniera.
The owner of Maggie Brown and The Emerson bar in Clinton Hill is turning Japanese — and heading to Lorimer Street in Williamsburg. According to DNAinfo, his new eatery, Suzume, will feature ramen, small plates, and pristine sushi rolls, showcasing fresher-than-fresh fish bought directly from local suppliers.
Speaking of ramen, Smith Street is finally getting in on the brothy biz with Slurp! (exclamation mark included). According to Grub Street, Cobble Hill’s newest ramen-ya is setting up shop in the old Chestnut space, and will feature an extensive sake program. We’ll drink (and slurp!) to that.
There’s a party going on in Williamsburg — a celebration, to last throughout the season. According to Eater, Lady Jay’s bar on Grand Street will host Summer Patio Sessions each Saturday — featuring free country and rockabilly concerts accompanied by heaping, $10 plates of barbecue from nearby neighbor, Mable’s Smokehouse and Banquet Hall. Yee-haw!
Restaurateur Taavo Somer’s head-scratching Williamsburg eatery Isa may no longer have tongues wagging over its high falutin’ food — like sunchoke cream with espresso and dirt — but it’s adding grist to the gossip mill instead. Over a week’s worth of whisperings about staff shakeups and possible shutterings has led to this final bit of intel from Grub Street — the entire kitchen staff is indeed out, and the concept has been revamped in favor of a casual vibe and Mediterranean fare with an emphasis on grilling. “The great feeling of unexpectedly losing your job!” tweeted former sous chef Jose Ramirez.
In less surprising news, the Patch reports that the beleaguered Park Slope Eatery has finally folded. The NYC Marshall’s office reveals that the tenants were evicted, which hardly comes as a shock after year-long reports of bankruptcy filings, word that the owners owed almost $100,000 to 18 different creditors, and a staggeringly high number of violations clocked by the DOH. All things considered, it was always a bit odd to wander by and see unconcerned patrons blithely munching on paninis and chicken salad sandwiches. Someone tell the Talde team that there’s a large, airy, prime corner spot open on the intersection of Fifth Street and Seventh Avenue!
