The simmering feud between food vendors and brick-and-mortar businesses in Bay Ridge boiled over last week when a group of merchants banded together to displace the Middle Eastern Halal Cart, a popular gyro seller, while disseminating anti-vendor literature. Weeks earlier, someone bolted two benches onto the cart’s usual sidewalk spot, forcing the vendor to move down the block. The defiant cart continues to sell lamb over rice on Fifth Avenue, but merchants say this food fight is far from over. We asked two major players on this issue to give us their thoughts:
