Jonathan Pineiro still remembers Elijah Taylor tapping his shoulder in history class as a sophomore. Taylor was looking for a sport to join to break the monotony of just going to school and going home.

“I said to join track,” Pineiro said.

Taylor was open to the idea and gave it shot.

“That whole first year I pretty much did it to just have fun,” Taylor said. “Once I joined the team I was in too deep. I felt like was a part of something big.”

Little did either know that three years later they would both be signing National Letters of Intent to run for Long Island University. Pineiro, who will also play baseball, will be going on a partial athletic scholarship, while Taylor will be getting a full ride.
