As you can see, sultry songstress Norah Jones has begun the controversial window work on her Amity Street townhouse. Our shutterbug captured all the action: two windows have been installed, and a third is in progress, and even opponents of the work had to admit that it may not turn out as bad as some anticipated.

“I’m sure they’re going to do a quality job,” said Roy Sloane of the Cobble Hill Association, which bitterly opposed Jones’s request to do the work on her home, despite its location within a historic district.

Sloane reiterated that his group’s main problem with Jones’s proposal was not the windows itself, but the way in which she was granted permission to install them. First, Jones’s architect filed a permit request for some back yard work that would not have been visible from the street.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved that work, but then the architect amended the plan to include 10 windows. When locals objected, the Commission said that the amended plan was kosher.

Jones knocked it down to seven windows, but Sloane is still upset.

“Whether I like the windows or not isn’t important,” he said. “We’re concerned with this ‘loophole.’ Our hope is that Norah will be happy living in Cobble Hill.”

Jones has not returned requests for comment.

Reasonable discourse

al pankin from downtown says:
loophole, shmoophole...these windows look real good, everyone who objects must be jealous that they don't have a house like that.
these objectors are a real bunch of loosers.
if one of the objectors buys the house then they can have the windows closed up...then they will be happy,
let them worry about what they own (if they own anything)

Pacholo from Red Hook says:
Yes, that Norah she is one sexy mommy - I want to see her walking in front of those extra windows!
If she loves me, she can do it.
Back in my home country houses didn't even have windows, people wouldn't understand what this fuss was all about.
Now we are in the land of the free and sexy Norah Jones gets windows up for Pacholo. Is good.
