The hotter it gets, the more you need water — and the city’s failure to provide it along the Shore Road bike path will lead to achy heads and sick stomachs for cyclists, joggers and even pedestrians.

High temperatures cause the body to overheat — and it happens faster when you are active.

But water wards off the onset of heat stroke, which is why health experts recommend at least eight ounces every half hour. Without a steady stream of cool liquids, you will get heat exhaustion and then heat stroke, which can result in confusion or irritability, dizziness, headache, light-headedness, nausea and weakness.

So good luck on the Shore Road bike path!
