Accident investigation officers look over the spot where a forklift struck and killed a 46-year-old woman Tuesday morning.

Witnesses told police that Rosemary Pratt was crossing the intersection of Avenue M and East 14th Street at 7:40 a.m. on January 5 when she was apparently hit by the a piece of equipment jutting out of the back of the vehicle.

There were quarters scattered all over the East 23rd Street resident, leading some to believe that she was running for the bus when the accident took place.

Officials said that the 40-year-old forklift driver wasn’t arrested, but was given several summonses after several equipment violations were discovered.
