Flick the switch and this year’s Christmas season kicks off at the third annual Holiday Tree lighting ceremony on December 11 from 5:30 -7 p.m. at the Human Compass Garden, Columbia and Sackett streets in the downtown section of Brooklyn.

The event, which is free and open to all, is hosted by the Carroll Gardens Association and sponsored by the Union Street Merchants and the Columbia Street Merchants.

One of Santa’s elves will sit by the fireplace, marshmallows will roast and hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes will be had by all.
