Senior killed

A 72-year-old grandfather was killed in East Flatbush last week after he was struck down by a passing car.

Officials said that Lawrence McDowell, a resident of East 56th Street, was just paces away from his home near Beverley Road at 7:27 p.m. December 11 when he crossed from the north side of the intersection to the south side.

That’s when he was struck by a 2001 white Nissan traveling westbound on Beverley Road, officials said.

Responding paramedics rushed the senior to Kings County Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The 28-year-old behind the wheel of the Nissan remained at the scene, police said.

No charges had been filed against him as this paper went to press although the incident is still being investigated.
