Struck and killed on W. 6th

A 91-year-old man was killed Sunday morning in a motor vehicle accident on West 6th Street near Avenue O, officials said.

Horrified witnesses said that Michael Fonterosa was crossing northbound on West 6th Street just before 11:45 a.m. on August 9 when a he was struck by a 2008 Infiniti traveling westbound.

The senior died at the scene. Police said that Fonterosa lived just a few blocks from the accident site at 64th Street and 24th Avenue.

Witnesses said that the Infiniti continued on down the street and struck a parked Nissan before vaulting the curb and slamming into a brick fence along West 6th Street.

The driver, 38, suffered only a cut to his hand, officials said. Paramedics took him to Lutheran Medical Center for treatment.

As of this writing, no charges have been filed against the driver, although an investigation into the accident was continuing.
