After years talking about needing one and a couple of false starts, the Church Avenue BID is now online with a brand new website,, targeted toward shoppers, residents and businesses of Church Avenue.

For shoppers and residents, there is a business directory with links to websites of local businesses as well as transportation, neighborhood and current event pages. For merchants, the website offers them an easy way to find out what the BID is doing and to communicate with BID about issues they are facing.

“We are very excited to not only have a website, but to have one that is such a great communication tool for our organization and the businesses we represent,” says Leon Mann, president of the BID and owner of Bobby’s Department Store.

The website was developed through a pilot website development program for New York City business improvement districts, merchant association and local development organizations. It was funded by New York City’s Department of Small Business Services with the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation coordinating the project. The site was designed by NPower, a design and communications firm whose work focuses on technology in the non-profit sector.

Mark Dicus, executive director of the BID, coordinated and oversaw the work from the beginning. “Having a website” said Dicus, “has been on our wish list for a couple of years. This is a great tool for us to raise Church Avenue’s profile, promote our special events and communicate with our shoppers, community residents and businesses.”

The Church Avenue BID covers 13 blocks along Church Avenue from Flatbush Avenue to Coney Island Avenue and contains approximately 150 merchants.
