‘Rush Hour Benefit to Terminate Hunger’

St. John’s Bread & Life (SJB&L), Brooklyn’s largest and likely the nation’s most high−tech soup kitchen, is holding its first “Rush Hour Benefit to Terminate Hunger” at Grand Central Station’s Northeast Balcony, June 24 from 5−8 p.m. by the elevator at Track #23.

The event costs have been underwritten so all proceeds go to feeding the hungry. “Rush Hour Benefit to Terminate Hunger” will feature culinary treats from The Balvenie, Sullivan St. Bakery, Ciao Bella Gelato and Zespri, plus a silent auction and much more. Catering will be provided by Charlie Palmer’s Metrazur.

St. John’s Bread & Life is revolutionary in its service delivery to the poor. The new, 22,000 square−foot, state−of­−the−art location in Bedford Stuyvesant, constructed in 2008, has the only Digital Choice Food Pantry in the nation, a library with computers and Internet access to offer email and voicemail to clients, mail service and educational instruction for job search.

Its new kitchen is restaurant quality. All of its programs focus on dignifying the delivery process for clients in an effort to resolve the need for emergency food services. The Mobile Soup Kitchen serves almost 500 hot meals daily at various locations in Brooklyn and Queens with outreach services to collect data and assist the undocumented.

The organization provides more than 400,000 delicious and nutritious meals each year.

Three levels of “Rush Hour Benefit for Hunger” tickets are available: $500 Patron tickets, $200 Rush Hour tickets and $100 Junior Committee tickets. Patrons will receive reserved seating and special treats.
