The rain did little to dampen the cheer of a sea of intrepid cyclists, who coursed through Brooklyn during the Great Five Boro Bike Tour, traversing the Brooklyn and Verrazano bridges en route to Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island for a celebration.

An estimated 30,000 riders put the pedal to the metal for the largest mass cycling event in the nation, stepping off at the 42−mile trek through slick, traffic−free city streets, avenues, highways and viaducts from Battery Park in Manhattan.
