To The Editor:

Stanley Gershbein’s recent column concerning the projected cost of attending baseball games at the new Mets Citifield (why not Gil Hodges?) Stadium was right on the money, and I do mean money (“It’s Only My Opinion”).

Although many corporations will have no problem springing for choice boxes and seats, the Mets management must still count on average Joes to occupy the many less desirable locations.

So to retaliate, these fans should spend their money instead on ocean cruises, Broadway shows, filling their car tanks with gas, or any other way they so choose, and when the games are being played, watch them on TV in the comfort of their living rooms, while perhaps digging into a bag of potato chips, with no concerns about traffic and exorbitant parking fees at the game, while the cameras pan the empty seats at the ballpark.

Of course things wont work out this way, but still…

Dear Emil,

Once upon a time I was able to take my four children and my roommate to a ballgame at an affordable price. Parking, hot dogs, souvenirs, and admission tickets were reasonably priced.

To do the same these days requires a telephone call to MasterCard for an increase in my credit line.

You are absolutely correct. It is a lot less expensive and a whole lot more enjoyable watching the game on TV.
