During the month of October, the Scandinavian East Coast Museum will be holding its Annual Viking Essay Contest. Children in grades four through six are eligible to compose an essay on the theme of “Scandinavian Explorers.”

You are encouraged to be creative, and can use the voice or an animal companion or the explorer.

Please send essays in by October 28 to SECM, c/o LES, 440 Ovington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11209.

There will be two winners selected. Prizes include a Norwegian sweater of your choice, Viking memorabilia, and the opportunity to ride in the Viking ship — the SECM’s float — at the Norwegian Day Parade.

For more, contact Victoria Hofmo at 718-748-5950.
