The weather was still gloomy, but Coney Island's Astroland and Wonder Wheel parks opened on Sunday. Astroland, which sold its land to a developer two years ago, is facing its last season before the wrecking ball comes down.

To mark the occasion, a native joined the parade near the Cyclone and the Bard of Coney Island, Amos Wengler, sang his classic, “Coney Island Opens Up Today!”

Reasonable discourse

Paul A. Toomey from Bay Ridge/Ft. Hamilton says:
Wonderful! Great!! now if the city can just get it's ---- together and make at least minimal repairs to the Boardwalk between W. 10th and W.16th streets before somebody gets seriously injured. A standard sheet of 3/4" plywood costs $27.99 retail. Is it possible for Marty to find some spare change and correct this horror show before the season is in full swing???
