Let’s face it, finding good curry in Brooklyn can be as arduous as spotting a N.O.W. supporter at a Republican convention.

But Clinton Hill resident Maya Kaimal has given curry lovers a welcome break. In October, Kaimal, whose book, "Curried Favors," (Abbeville Press, 1996) won the Julia Child first book award, introduced her three product line of all-natural, preservative free, vegetarian "simmer sauces.

Kaimal uses a northern Indian recipe for her mild Tikka Masala, delicately scented with cinnamon and cloves. Coconut Curry is a southern Indian preparation flavored with coconut milk, ginger and mustard seed that sets the mouth glowing with pleasant heat. The third is Vindaloo, a spicy and tart combination from the Western coast that, when warmed, fills the kitchen with the aroma of tomatoes and ginger. The Vindaloo is intensely flavored, but not gulp-the-water hot.

All of the sauces come in 15-ounce plastic tubs and must be refrigerated after opening. They retail for approximately $5.50.
